Does your neck get stiff? Are your shoulders tight? These exercises can improve mobility and ease tension.
First, daily aerobic exercise (walking, swimming, hiking, etc.) is essential to whole-body health, including keeping your upper body limber and pain-free.
Second, to loosen the neck and shoulders, practice stretching and strengthening the entire upper body. Here are 3 excellent upper body exercises to practice daily:
Diamonds - Place your hands behind your head. Draw your shoulders back, lift your chest, and look up. Then bring your elbows together in front and look down. Repeat 10-20 times slowly, 2+ times per day.
Cobra to Child's pose - Best if you are warmed up first. Alternate between Cobra and Child's pose, slowly. Repeat 10-20 times. You can add Up-Dog to Down-Dog, 10 times, after the Cobra to Child's pose sequence.
Cat-Cow - A classic, for good reason. From table-top position, arch your back, sink your chest forward and shoulders back, and look up (for cow). Then look down, rounding your back (to cat). Keep elbows and arms straight. Repeat slowly, 10-20 times.
You can do Cat-Cow from a seated position, against a countertop or table, or from standing.
July is Thai Time!
Starting in July, I will be offering new Thai Massage "packages". Thai Massage, from Thailand, is an amazing, ancient bodywork. It is one of those rare, truly holistic therapies. Thai Massage, aka Thai-Yoga or Assisted Yoga, involves stretches, compression, and percussion. Amongst its many benefits, Thai Massage:
Aligns the body
Relieves tension
Aids sleep and relaxation
Moves stagnant chi
Loosens stiff muscles
Increases mobility
Thai Body Therapy (TBT) packages of 2 sessions per month will be offered to my clients who want to maintain the powerful experience of Thai Massage, as part of a holistic self-care regimen.
July Offering:
To experience Thai Massage, I am offering a complimentary 30-minute Thai Massage when you book a 90-minute A to Zia Massage. You can enjoy a relaxing Therapeutic Massage plus a mini-Thai Massage treatment (or Pssst... you can receive a 2-hour Thai Massage for the price of a 90-minute Thai Massage!).
Group Fitness shifts:
The timing just wasn't right for me to teach group fitness classes at the Rec Center. I enjoyed meeting so many new people and sharing fitness with all of you! But a Step Aerobics comeback will have to wait, and I will be devoted to my daily yoga as a student and occasional teacher. My PhD research and my Massage Therapy practice are my top priorities. So, I am shifting my focus back to the peace of my lab in Skeen Hall and my Massage Therapy room.
(I will continue to offer random "Hike and Yoga" sessions for my wonderful Las Cruces ladies' group. Email me if you're a 50+ woman in Las Cruces and want to know more about our fun group and diverse activities.)
Holiday weekend Massage offerings: I have a few openings for Massage over the holiday weekend, July 5th and 6th.
Wishing everyone a safe and fun holiday weekend!
